The Bryan Station Volleyball team's season ended sooner than the
Lady Defenders and their supporters had hoped in the opening
round of the Region 11 tournament at Franklin Co. H.S. last
Tuesday evening. The team's hopes for a surprise upset ran into
a determined effort by a very good, 6th ranked Henry Clay Blue
Devil team, which wasted no time in proving that their ranking
was well-deserved in moving on to the semifinal round with a
2-0, (25-9, 25-13) victory.
The season ending loss, to a well prepared and coached team, was
of course disappointing in the moment, but certainly not
reflective of the hard work and dedication shown by this group
of girls over the entirety of their 2009 season. The Defenders
finished the season at 24-12, with an unblemished 8-0 record in
District 42 play and a third straight District 42 Championship.
More importantly, our young student athletes have had the
opportunity to learn and grow, not only through the wins and
losses of competition but also through the experiences of
working together and supporting each other through all the ups
and downs of the season. As we bid good bye and thanks to our
departing seniors, it is heartening to realize that these
lessons of the volleyball court will serve our
daughters/students/friends well as they continue their life's
education. Go Defenders!
