The Bryan Station
Lady Defenders used aggressive play at the net along with strong
defensive support to finally subdue the Woodford Co. Lady Yellow
Jackets in their own nest Tuesday night. Bryan Station prevailed
in a back and forth 3 game match that was marked by several long
volleys and momentum shifts.
Woodford Co. jumped
out to an early 8-4 lead in game one, but the Defenders turned
the tide, with setter Marylynne Anderson-Cooper spreading the
ball around to all her hitters. Nealy Williams, Sher'yce Butler,
Alexis Cox, Callie Zaino and Rachel Murphy led the front row
offensive assault with several "kills". Defensive specialists
Tia Blakeman and Megan Hoover provided defensive "digs" from the
back row while the front row combined for several blocks of
Woodford Co.'s attempted shots. Bryan Station steadily took over
the momentum winning the first game by a comfortable 25-17
margin.
Game 2 was fairly
even through its midway point, however with Bryan Station
holding a 15-14 lead Woodford Co. took over, running out to a
24-16 lead and eventually winning 25-18. In the third game, the
Lady Defenders regrouped and came out fast, recapturing the
momentum. They built up a 15-6 lead and built on that the
rest of the way to cruise home, 25-11. Coach Christina Coleman
used all her players, as Surya Sandusky, Izzy Stone, Lisa
Zangari and Serena Sandusky all rotated in throughout
contributing to a solid team win.
Bryan Station, (21-11), finishes the regular season Thursday
night visiting Pulaski Co. They will return home next Tuesday,
Oct. 13th to host the KHSAA District 42 Tournament, playing
Berea in a 6:00 P.M. game. Please plan to come out and
support our fine group of young ladies.
