Dear FCPS
Families,
As you know, students are our number
one priority and their safety and well-being are of
utmost importance to us.
Anytime an
issue could affect the health and safety of our
students we want to be certain our families have
accurate information directly from us.
We are writing
today to assure you that we have taken steps to
protect our students during the national beef
recall.
The school
district did receive some of the ground beef
products from California-based Westland/Hallmark
Meat Company. One to two cases of meat had
been distributed to each school in the district.
The United States Agriculture Department flagged the
Fiesta Beef & Mac and Meatloaf on January 30.
At that time the district put the beef on hold and
discontinued its use. Yesterday the U.S.D.A.
recalled the beef, which is now being destroyed by
each school, in accordance with instructions from
the federal government.
Prior to being
notified (January 30) some of the beef was consumed,
but no illnesses have been reported.
Thank you for
the privilege of working with your children and your
understanding that we take matters like this very
seriously.
