FAFSA INFORMATION

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for federal, state and college-based financial aid.  FAFSA is now opening October 1st.  Awards are income-based, so appying early does not guarantee you will get an award.  However, applying late could mean the money has been distributed before you apply. Apply early.

To speed up your process on that day, visit a couple websites first to set up your accounts.  Make sure you have active email accounts for both the student and at least one parent of dependent students.  Visit fsaid.ed.gov to set up your Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID).  Both the student AND at least one parent of a dependent student will need to create an FSA ID.  Also, set up your account at fafsa.gov.

Set by step tips are listed on this FAFSA Checklist from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).

Taking the ACT on National Test dates

ACT site has a Test Day Checklist.  Included in the checklist are items that you are required to bring with you.

Local ACT testing locations have had a significant number of students showing up for the ACT on national test days expecting to have an ACT Identification letter or admissions ticket printed for them.  Testing centers cannot print those on site.  You must bring it with you.

When taking the ACT on national test dates, make sure to bring the following with you:

  1. Your admission ticket with your photo on it. Your testing center will not print it for you on site.
  2. A government issued photo ID or an ACT Identification Letter prepared by a Notary or their School Official.  The school profile summary is not accepted. If you need assistance with this ACT Identification Letter, please contact your BSHS school counselor or librarian at the beginning of a school day prior to your test date.
  3. Pencils and a calculator.  They do not supply calculators or pencils.

Be sure to refer to the Test Day Checklist for the most complete list.

Transcript Requests
including final transcripts

Parents and students who have questions concerning Parchment,  please read below...

Several mistakes are being made when creating accounts that prevents Parchment from matching the transcript requests with what we send to Parchment.   The following mistakes have been the most common mistakes and are taking time to be resolved:

  • Using a nickname instead of your real name.
  • Misspelled student names
  • Parents completing the requests and using parent's information like birth year instead of the student's info.

These mistakes can be prevented by using the registration code that was given to the students via student email. All current 10th-12th graders have been emailed with this code.  All 2014 graduates received this email in the fall of 2013.

If you have requested a transcript via Parchment, the transcript will be delivered.  If you have not yet requested your final transcript, you must do that through Parchment ASAP. If you have never been on Parchment, please use the registration code to create your Parchment account and complete your request.

Individualized Learning Plan (ILP)

The ILP, powered by Career Cruising, is an internet-based tool designed to initiate career and education exploration activities and help students bring together their academic achievements and extracurricular activities. Each year, as required by the Kentucky Department of Education, all students grades 6-12 complete specified activities to update their ILP. It is a GRADUATION REQUIREMENT for all seniors to get their ILP to 100% completion before they can walk at graduation.  Seniors, contact your English teacher or your school counselor for your login information.
