Cultural Home-Stay
International:
Any family interested in hosting an international student is invited to an
informational meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10th at 7:00 pm at Eagle Creek
Library. There will be international students and host family members
present to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.
Video Contest:
The Keep It Real campaign to reduce underage drinking has launched its sixth
annual video contest in which teens can win cash prizes (up to $200.00) and
receive media exposure (on TV and local cinemas!). The contest gives
students the opportunity to produce 30-second videos telling why kids under
21 shouldn’t drink. Video entries due December 11, 2009. For the

Join the PTSA:
The PTSA is a great way for parents, teachers, students, and alumni to
connect and be a positive impact at Bryan Station High School. The 2009-10
BSHS PTSA Membership Drive continues to grow, we have 165 members!! We need
your help in achieving our of goal of 500 members in the 2009-10 school
year. Thus far, we have 100 parent members, 39 teachers/staff, 21 students,
and 5 community members.
Congratulations to Starr Adams, the parent winner of a $100 gift card from
the PTSA; and teachers Christy Hill and Diana Ogden who each won $25 gift
cards!!! STUDENTS STAY TUNED FOR PTSA DRAWINGS FOR PRIME PARKING SPACES AND
GIFT CARDS!!! You must be a member of the PTSA to have your named entered in
these and future drawings. Membership is $5.00. You can link to our page and
join online OR put your name and $5 in an envelope labeled PTSA. The
wonderful team in the front office will put your envelope in our mailbox!!

Baseball Conditioning:
Conditioning has started for anyone interested in playing baseball for the
2010 season and will take place every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
at 4:15. For information contact Coach Brooks at

IT Academy Applications
for 2010-2011: The deadline for applications
for the Academy of Information Technology was Oct. 15, 2009.

Good News @ BSHS
Academic Team Beats Knights:
The Bryan Station Varsity Academic Team
improved its season record to 3 and 2 on Oct. 29th by defeating Lexington
Catholic in a low-scoring nail biter 18 to 17. The varsity Defenders were
trailing by two points with two minutes left on the clock, when Clair Schaub,
Cyrus Saffari, and Zoe Snider correctly answered questions vaulting the team
into a one-point lead that they managed to sustain until the end of the
match. Great job team!
Freshman Football League
Champions:
Congratulations to the Freshman Football
team for winning the league championship on Monday, Oct. 26th. Their
62-8 win over Tates Creek earned the team a perfect 8-0 record for the
season! Great job guys!
Volleyball Season:
Congratulations to the Lady
Defenders who finished their season with a 24-12 record, and 8-0 record in
District 42 play and a 3rd straight District 42 Championship.

PTSA Wins $1000 at Second Sunday:
Congratulations to the PTSA
and the students of Bryan Station. Because Bryan Station had the most
students at the Second Sunday event, the PTSA was awarded $1,000. The
step team is being given $300 of those funds for being the top BSHS group in

Lady Defenders Sweep:
(10-20-09) The Lady Defenders
Volleyball Team beat Berea and Madison Central to Win the 42nd District
Championship. Marylynne Anderson-Cooper, Alexis Cox, Sherry’ce Butler,
Rachel Murphy, and Most Valuable Player Nealy Williams were named to the

Kentucky Leadership Training
Institute (KLTI):
Congratulations to Quintin Willis for
being selected to represent Bryan Station and Fayette County at KLTI.
This 3-day conference will give students opportunity to hone their
leadership skills and prepare for post-secondary success.
National Achievement Scholarship
Program:
Nealy Williams was named an Outstanding
Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. She
scored in the top 3% of more than 160,000 Black Americans who took the 2008
PSAT/NMSQT.
National Merit Semifinalists and
Commended Students:
Congratulations to Lucy
Arthur-Paratley and Clair Schaub. They are both semifinalists in the
annual National Merit Scholarship Program and will compete for about $36
million in college scholarships.
Victor Castro and Zoe Snider have been
named Commended Students in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized
for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed
among the top 5% of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2010
competition by taking the 2008 PSAT/NMSQT.
